The decision
Reggie, 26 September: the product is no longer called Smart Fifth, and it is not called a fifth wheel. It is the Warlock Commandery Roadmaster, TWC Roadmaster Tractor Trailer Combo, and the mod folder is simply TWC-Roadmaster.
What changed
- Mod folder
BabyWarlockSmartFifthbecomesTWC-Roadmaster. Delete the old folder before installing; the two must not load together. The install step of the publish tool parks the old folder and the boot check refuses if the game still reports it loaded. - Names. Mod name and display name, the in-game items (TWC Roadmaster 6x4 Tractor, TWC Roadmaster 53’ Dry Van) and their descriptions, the README, the changelog, the listing copy, the download name, the project page and its address.
- Log lines. Every runtime message now starts
[TWC Roadmaster]; the boot line readsv1.1.0 runtime loaded on V3.2.0 b10. The runtime was rebuilt from the same source with only those strings and its version changed; the string diff of the two binaries shows nothing else. - One internal id. The trailer’s storage container id carried the old name and was renamed in both places it appears.
What deliberately did not change
- Entity and item ids. They never carried the old name, and they are what a saved game stores. Vehicles already placed in a world carry over.
- The runtime’s assembly name, namespace and class names, which the entity classes bind to by name. They are invisible to players and changing them buys nothing but risk.
- Marker names inside the Unity bundles. The runtime finds the coupling plate and the kingpin by their object names in the bundle; those cannot change without rebuilding both bundles, and the bundles are byte-identical to the last approved release.
- Dated field reports. The August and September reports still say Smart-Fifth, because that is what it was called on those dates. Only their project link moved.
How it was checked
Preflight refused to start unless the old pack equalled its lock byte for byte and the new folder did not exist. Install copied the pack under the new name, asserted the change set was exactly the declared seven files, scanned every text file in the new pack for the old name and refused on anything outside the allowed history lines, then parked the old folder. One boot verified the new load line and banner, the absence of the old mod, and no warning naming either name. The zip was cut only after that receipt matched the live folder. The old project address redirects to the new one.
Owed
Reggie’s coupling drive under the new name, then LOD and damage-state meshes and air lines that articulate.
